Struggling to find a spot in the student parking lot is nothing new to students who can drive. They often feel agitation towards each other, due to the everyday parking conflicts.
Students openly admit that parking in the same spot every day becomes habit, and they are upset when they can’t park there. The possession of a specific parking space often leads to arguments between friends, and the growing problem puts parked students at risk of damage to their car.
A junior girl said, “If someone parks in my spot I’m pissed.” Part of the issue is that most students would prefer a spot close to the front of the parking lot, but several spots have been marked for staff and visitors only.
Another issue in the student parking lot is the traffic jam to leave. Juniors Erica McIntosh and Lauren Smith agree that the only way to leave quickly is to be in the parking lot a few minutes after the bell, in order to avoid the mayhem that ensues.
Nayeli Echeverria, senior, admitted that the line to leave the parking lot is “understandable but frustrating.”
Lauren Smith, junior, explained that “people lay claim to their spots for the whole year,” and the staff spaces have only caused more trouble for students who arrive late, with nowhere to park.
Campus supervisor Mike Thomas said that the new staff parking spaces do not take away from spots for students, because there is plenty of room in the back near Adele Harrison Middle School.
