The 2016-2017 girls’ basketball season has gone exactly to plan. The team is 4-0 after beating Elsie Allen, Petaluma, Analy and Healdsburg. The toughest game so far was the third game of the season against title rivals Analy.
Senior, Alanna Johnston confirms, “Analy is the best team we’ve played so far; it was close throughout the whole game, but we were able to win in the end.” Johnston attributes the team's success this year to their ability to adapt, “We’re not as big this year, but we make up for it in our speed up and down the court.”
Annika Ginter, a sophomore on varsity, gives credit to the team's chemistry, saying “all of us get along really well; this is a great group of girls.”
Contrastingly, senior Shelby Decker is focusing more on her game, stating that she is only “there to play.”
Whichever method players prefer, it certainly is working as the team is undefeated in league and is looking to make a push for the SCL championship. There is still a long way to go, but the early signs are promising.
